Frequently Asked Questions
Is this a free alternative to Otter.ai or Rev?
Yes. Unlike Otter.ai (limited free minutes) or Rev (paid), ForgeDaddy's speech-to-text is 100% free with no limits. Record as long as you want, as many times as you want. No signup required.
How accurate is the transcription?
Accuracy depends on your browser's speech engine. Chrome uses Google's speech recognition (very accurate for major languages). Safari uses Apple's Siri engine. Typical accuracy is 90-98% for clear speech in supported languages.
What languages are supported?
Over 85 languages including English, Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi, Russian, Portuguese, and many more. Select your language from the dropdown before recording.
Where is my audio processed?
Audio is processed by your browser's built-in speech recognition engine. For Chrome, this uses Google's servers. For Safari, it uses Apple's servers. No audio is ever sent to ForgeDaddy.
Why doesn't it work in Firefox?
Firefox does not currently support the Web Speech API's speech recognition feature. We recommend using Chrome, Edge, or Safari for the best experience.
Can I transcribe audio files instead of live speech?
This tool is designed for live microphone input. For transcribing existing audio/video files, a server-side solution using Whisper AI would be needed — coming in a future update.
